Latest Product Updates That Bring AI Into the Heart of Legal Work
August
Team
October was a pivotal month at August. After hundreds of conversations with partners, associates, innovation teams, and existing customers, one message became clear:
“AI becomes transformative only when it lives in the same spaces where lawyers already work”
This month, we made major progress toward that vision.
We launched our Word Plugin, Outlook Integration, Playbooks upgrades, and Quill — creating a continuous, unified experience across the entire drafting and review workflow.
Your context now moves with you automatically, whether you are reviewing an email, editing a clause in Word, or generating a tabular summary in the Assistant.
Here’s what shipped.
1. August for Word — AI Inside the Drafting Workspace
Word remains the center of legal drafting, so we built August to feel native inside the document. No switching windows or breaking your workflow. The AI now works directly alongside the lawyer.
What’s new
Inline redlines and clause rewrites with tracked changes
Playbook-powered reviews directly inside Word
Extraction across multiple documents (parties, dates, definitions, obligations)
Negotiation fallbacks that reflect your firm’s preferred positions
Generate tabular reviews from the Assistant and continue them seamlessly in Word
With these updates, Word becomes more than a text editor — it becomes an intelligent partner that preserves style, formatting, and structure while improving the speed and accuracy of every review.
2. Playbooks — Turning Knowledge Into Automated, Consistent Output
Playbooks capture a firm’s institutional preferences and apply them automatically during review. This month, Playbooks became more integrated, more contextual, and easier to create than ever.
What’s improved
Clause-by-clause checks that label sections as “Compliant” or “Needs Revision”
Preferred and fallback language suggestions in a single click
Support for client specific requirements, risk tolerances, and negotiation patterns
Cross-document consistency checks for definitions, timelines, and obligations
Ability to generate Playbooks from past redlines using the Assistant
Creating a Playbook used to require long drafting sessions and scattered examples. Now you can build one in minutes by uploading a prior contract, extracting your preferred edits, and letting August compile everything into a structured set of rules.
