Introducing Live Assist

Real-time analysis of every conversation, compared against your case files, so inconsistencies are caught before they become problems.

You've missed something in a live conversation before. Every lawyer has. A witness contradicts a prior declaration, or a client's version doesn't quite match the contracts, and you make a mental note and move on. Sometimes you catch it later, sometimes you don't.

That's not a skill problem, it's a bandwidth problem. Nobody can listen, strategize, and cross-reference hundreds of pages at the same time, so you pick one and hope for the best on the rest.

August’s Live Assist changes that tradeoff. It joins your legal conversations in real time, cross-references what's being said against your case documents, and flags contradictions while you can still do something about them.

What Is Live Assist?

Live Assist transcribes your legal conversations with speaker labels and automatically cross-references everything said against the documents you've uploaded to August.

You upload the documents you want August to monitor against: prior testimony, declarations, contracts, email productions, company policies, and prior call transcripts. Then you turn on Live Assist and start the conversation.

From there, three things happen at once. August transcribes the conversation and allows you to add speaker labels, so you always know who said what, compares every statement against your uploaded documents in real time, and when something doesn't match, flags the inconsistency in a side panel with the exact source citation. Hover over a flag, and you see the highlighted passage from the original document.

The interface is passive by design. Flags appear quietly in a side panel while you stay in the conversation, focused on your witness or your client. You don't have to choose between listening and checking; you do one, and August does the other.

When the conversation ends, you have a cross-referenced, annotated record of what was said and where it diverged from the documents. No reconstructing from memory, no end-of-day scramble through your notes.

Think of it this way: transcription tools write down what was said, but Live Assist tells you what doesn't add up.

In Practice

Say you're deposing a witness. You've uploaded prior testimony, earlier depositions, and exhibits for August to cross-reference. As the deposition unfolds, Live Assist flags contradictions and key facts in a side panel and suggests follow-up questions while the conversation is still going. You stay locked in on the witness and the strategy while August handles the cross-referencing.

Depositions are the obvious use case, but Live Assist works in any conversation where someone is talking, the record says something different, and you have a narrow window to catch it.

  • Client calls: Verify what's being said against contracts and prior statements, and clarify any discrepancies before they become a credibility problem down the line.

  • Witness prep: Catch inconsistencies before your witness takes the stand, not after.

  • Settlement negotiations: Flag mischaracterized terms and push back in the room, not in a follow-up email.

  • Internal investigations: monitor interviews against prior statements and document productions as they happen.

How We Handle Your Data

A quick note here, because it matters for this kind of feature. Everything stays within your environment: audio is encrypted in transit, logically separated from other customers, and never used to train models. We built this with attorney-client privilege, work product protections, and confidentiality obligations in mind.

One thing to flag: compliance with local recording and consent laws is your responsibility, just as it is with any recording tool.
