WongPartnership Selects August to Build Custom AI
After nearly a decade of adopting legal technology early, one of Singapore’s leading law firms will now build AI around its own practice.

WongPartnership has selected August as a strategic AI partner to bring AI tools and training to the whole organization, for fee earners and non-fee earners alike.
WongPartnership is the first major firm in Singapore to partner with August. The firm will use August to build agents shaped by its own knowledge and practice methodologies, and our team will work alongside its lawyers to design and deliver them.
Nearly a decade of legal technology
WongPartnership has long been a forerunner in legal technology in Singapore. In 2017 it adopted machine learning and document automation, and was the first major Singapore-headquartered firm to use Thomson Reuters’ Contract Express. In 2024 it became the first law firm in South East Asia to deploy Harvey, which it tested in phases with lawyers and business teams. In 2025 it began a proof of concept for CoCounsel, as part of a wider collaboration with Thomson Reuters on AI-driven legal products for the region.
Each of those steps brought a proven product into the firm. The work with August starts from the firm itself, and asks what AI looks like when it is designed around WongPartnership’s own practice. Ng Wai King championed the firm’s earlier AI partnerships as Chairman and Managing Partner, and as Chairman and Senior Partner he sees this as the next step.
“The collaboration with August allows us to move beyond adoption. We now have the opportunity to drive AI impact at scale by customizing AI solutions to align with how our lawyers do their work. We envisage leveraging AI to provide faster turnaround with deeper insight, and services that feel like an extension of our expertise rather than a bolt-on product. That is how we will continue to deliver exceptional value in an evolving legal landscape.”

Singapore’s path to custom AI
Singapore has been unusually clear about where legal AI is heading. In March 2026 the Ministry of Law published its Guide for Using Generative AI in the Legal Sector, and Minister for Law Edwin Tong pledged the government’s full support for firms adopting the technology.
The ministry also set out a path for firms. Most begin with general AI tools and move on to commercial legal AI products. The most advanced go on to build AI customized for their own needs. WongPartnership has already taken the first two steps, and its work with August is the third.
The Guide also holds lawyers accountable for everything their AI produces. August is built with that in mind: agents follow the firm’s own precedent and methods, and its lawyers review the work.
AI for the whole firm
WongPartnership is giving everyone at the firm access to August, including the teams who run the business around its lawyers. Because everyone works on the same platform, a workflow one practice group builds can be run by the next, and the firm’s methods stay with the firm as people and matters change.
The rollout starts with training. August Academy’s video tutorials sit alongside sessions with the firm’s teams, and lawyers can start from August’s library of more than 700 prebuilt workflows on their first day.
Customization comes next. August’s team will work alongside WongPartnership’s lawyers to find the tasks that repeat across matters, then codify the firm’s precedent and practice methods into agents its whole team can run.
“WongPartnership is rethinking what legal client services can be and we are excited to collaborate with them to achieve their vision. Their approach to provisioning AI for the entire firm lays the foundation for developing agentic solutions tailored to their expertise and the region.”
